NSGC carries the right to acquire Casino Nova Scotia’s Halifax property from Great Canadian for ‘nominal consideration’
The organization intends to lease-back the existing facility from any third-party buyer so Great Canadian may continue operations until the new property is completed
Great Canadian Entertainment and the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) have agreed to relocate the operations of Casino Nova Scotia to a new, purpose-built facility in Dartmouth Crossing, projected to open in 2029.
“We recognize the Province’s strong desire to unlock the full value of the property where our Halifax operation currently sits, and we are pleased to move forward with an exciting, refreshed vision for gaming entertainment in the Nova Scotia market,” Great Canadian CEO Matthew Anfinson said.
“There is much work to undertake to bring this vision to life, so it is very much ‘business as usual’ for our valued team members and guests at Casino Nova Scotia’s Halifax location. Today’s announcement marks a major milestone for Casino Nova Scotia and the Province; we are very proud to continue to invest and operate in Nova Scotia.”
Great Canadian currently operates Casino Nova Scotia on the behalf of NSGC, which maintains the right to acquire the Halifax site for “nominal consideration” with the intention of selling the property to a third-party buyer for “best possible value.”
NSGC would then lease-back the Casino Nova Scotia Halifax site so Great Canadian can continue operating the gaming establishment until its new Dartmouth Crossing property has been completed.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Great Canadian Entertainment for a new, modern casino in Dartmouth,” Environment and Climate Change Minister Timothy Halman said.
“Great Canadian has the expertise and track record we need to ensure the continued success of casino operations in our province.”
Great Canadian also agreed to an extended 25-year operational term with NSGC following the projected opening of its new Dartmouth Crossing establishment in 2029, still subject to certain rights held by the organization.
Casino Nova Scotia’s existing site will remain operational with “no day-to-day impact,” while no interruptions are expected at the facility due to construction of the new Dartmouth Crossing property.
