A lottery winner, who realized he had won $1m from a raffle, admitted to feeling amazing.
That's the story of one retired U.S. Army Officer from Virginia, who participated in the Virginia Lottery's New Year's Millionaire Raffle.
Hitting the unexpected lottery prize, the winner was shocked
The fortunate player purchased his winning ticket at Giant Food at 6011 Burke Center Parkway in Burke.
Surprisingly, his ticket #038045 was among the tickets that won a $1m top prize each.
Selling the top prize winning ticket, the retailer will benefit from a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.
Besides the New Year's Millionaire Raffle ticket purchased in Burke, four other top prizes of $1m each were won in Alexandria, Bealeton, Hopewell and Madison.
In addition to the five top prizes, seven ticket holders won prizes of $100,000 each.
Those tickets were purchased in Hampton, Montvale, Richmond, Leesburg, Manassas, Stafford and Winchester.
The Virginia Lottery's New Year's Millionaire Raffle also awarded 1,000 ticket holders a prize of $500 each.
While the winning ticket numbers were announced by the Virginia Lottery at the start of the year, confirmation about the latest top prize win came on Tuesday.
The fortunate lottery player, who chose to remain anonymous, spoke with excitement when speaking to officials from the Virginia Lottery.
"I was kind of shocked," the retired U.S. Army officer explained.
Moreover, the incredibly lucky player exclaimed: "It just feels amazing!"
While the winner collected his $1m prize from the Virginia Lottery's New Year's Millionaire Raffle, he did not reveal if he has plans for his newfound fortune.
