Amid the stagnation of Thailand’s gaming industry, Singapore is showing steady growth and promising prospects. This was stated by the country’s Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Marina Bay Sands resort complex.

Wong recalled how the launch of the gaming market became a turning point for Singapore’s economy, particularly in the context of the current regional slowdown. According to him, the key to success lies in “a constant drive for progress and the refusal to take advancement for granted.”

“Progress is not predetermined. It’s not predestined. It’s not inevitable. It takes discipline. It takes effort. It takes belief. And it takes hard work,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Although the legislative initiatives for integrated resorts in Singapore were broadly similar to earlier proposals in Thailand, Wong noted that in Singapore, they became part of a strategic transformation of the tourism sector, representing a bold step forward.

He added: “There was also a bold commitment from Las Vegas Sands, a major investment underpinned by confidence in Singapore and Singapore’s future. We both had to take risks. It was not predetermined.

“This outcome that we enjoy today, 20 years later, could not have been foretold. But we together made it happen, and I’m glad that this partnership has flourished.”

These remarks came against the backdrop of significant changes in the country: construction is underway in Singapore on a new ultra-luxurious resort and entertainment complex worth $8 billion. The project is set to expand the company’s regional presence and reinforce its long-term commitment to the Republic.

Sands Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Robert Goldstein, commented: “With its opening in 2010, our founder Sheldon G. Adelson embarked on a journey in Singapore with Marina Bay Sands and the people of Singapore that promised to change the face of tourism in the region.
